User Guide

Everything you need to know about using Bounce to upload, organize, mix, collaborate on, and share your music.

Getting Started

Creating your account

Head to bounce.fm/signup and create your account with an email address and password. You can also sign up with Google for a faster start.

Once you're in, you'll land on the dashboard. From here you can create your first artist, explore the app, or jump straight into uploading music.

Setting up your profile

Click your avatar in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar to open Settings. Under the Profile tab you can:

  1. Upload a profile photo.
  2. Set your full name and username.
  3. Your email is displayed but cannot be changed here.

Your profile photo and name appear throughout Bounce — in comments, to-dos, the Lounge chat, and activity feeds — so your collaborators know who's who.

Account settings

The Settings page also includes:

  • Security — Change your password.
  • Appearance — Switch between Light, Dark, or System theme.
  • Timezone — Set your timezone so dates and times display correctly.
  • Notifications — Control which email notifications you receive, both globally and per artist. You can toggle notifications for comments, to-dos, and @mentions.

Artists, Bands & Projects

Bounce is built around artists, not individual user accounts. An artist can be a solo project, a band, a duo, a side project — any creative identity that makes music. You manage all of your artists from one login, and each artist has its own library, albums, collaborators, and settings.

Creating an artist

  1. Click the artist switcher in the sidebar (or the "+" button next to it).
  2. Enter the artist name.
  3. Optionally add a bio, profile image, and a custom slug (this creates a public URL for your artist page).
  4. Click Create.

You can create as many artists as you want. Each artist starts with 15 free songs.

Switching between artists

Use the artist switcher in the top-left of the sidebar. Click the dropdown to see all your artists, then select the one you want to work with. The entire app — library, albums, Lounge, activity feed — switches to that artist's context.

If someone sends you a link to a song or album from a different artist, Bounce will automatically switch to the correct artist context when you open it.

Editing artist details

Navigate to the artist page by clicking the artist name in the sidebar. From there you can edit:

  • Name and bio
  • Profile image
  • Custom slug — Controls your public artist URL.
  • Social links — Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, YouTube, and more.
  • Visibility — Make the artist public or private.

Deleting an artist

Only the artist owner can delete an artist. This is a soft delete — the artist and all associated data are archived rather than permanently removed. Navigate to the artist page and find the delete option in the settings.

Deleting an artist removes access for all collaborators. Make sure everyone is aligned before deleting.

Inviting Collaborators

Every artist in Bounce has its own team. Your bandmates on one project don't automatically see your solo work — you invite people to each artist individually.

How to invite

There are two ways to invite someone to collaborate on an artist:

  • Email invite — From the artist page, click Invite, enter their email address, and send. They'll receive an email with a link to join. If they don't have a Bounce account yet, they'll create one during the process.
  • Copy invite link — Generate a shareable invite link and send it however you like — text, DM, carrier pigeon. Anyone who clicks it can join the artist.
There are no per-seat charges. Invite as many collaborators as you want — it's free, always.

Member roles

Bounce has three roles for artist members:

  • Owner — Full control. Can manage billing, delete the artist, transfer ownership, and manage all team members. The person who creates the artist is the owner.
  • Collaborator — Can upload, edit, comment, create albums, use the mixer, and do everything a musician needs to do. Cannot manage billing or delete the artist.

Managing your team

From the artist page or the Team page in the sidebar, you can:

  • Change a member's role (owner only).
  • Remove a member from the artist.
  • Transfer ownership to another member.

Your Music Library

The library is where all of an artist's songs live. Each song is a container that holds mixes (full versions of the song) and stems (individual tracks like drums, bass, vocals).

Uploading songs

There are several ways to get music into Bounce:

  • Drag and drop — Drag audio files directly onto the library page. Bounce creates a new song for each file.
  • Upload button — Click the upload button in the library to open the upload wizard, which walks you through naming the song and selecting files.
  • Add to existing song — Expand a song card and drag files into the mixes or stems section to add new versions.
Bounce supports WAV, MP3, AIFF, and M4A. AIFF files are automatically converted to WAV on upload. For the best quality in the Stem Mixer, upload WAV files.

Understanding mixes and stems

Every song in Bounce can hold two types of audio files:

  • Mixes — Full versions of the song. Think "rough mix," "final mix," "radio edit." Each time you bounce a new version out of your DAW, upload it as a mix. Bounce keeps every version so you can compare them.
  • Stems — Individual tracks that make up the song: drums, bass, vocals, guitars, keys, etc. Upload stems to use the Stem Mixer, which lets you adjust levels, pan, add effects, and create new mixes right inside Bounce.
In the app, you'll see "mixes" and "stems" used consistently. On the marketing site we sometimes say "songs" and "files" — they're the same thing.

Managing your songs

Click on a song to expand its card. From the expanded view you can:

  • Play any mix or stem.
  • Rename the song.
  • Upload additional mixes or stems.
  • Delete individual mixes, stems, or the entire song.
  • Open the song's tool panels (comments, to-dos, notes, analytics).
  • Open the Stem Mixer.
  • Share the song or a specific mix.

Search, filter, and bulk actions

Use the search bar at the top of the library to find songs by name. You can also filter songs by workflow stage if they're part of an album.

Select multiple songs using the checkboxes to access bulk actions:

  • Add to Album — Add selected songs to an album.
  • Download — Download selected songs.
  • Delete — Delete selected songs.

Song Tools

Every song has a set of built-in tools for collaboration. Access them by expanding a song card and clicking the icons on the right side.

Comments

Leave comments on a song to discuss it with your collaborators. Comments support:

  • Timestamps — Click the timestamp button while listening to pin your comment to a specific moment in the song. When someone clicks the timestamp in your comment, playback jumps to that point.
  • @mentions — Type @ followed by a collaborator's name to mention them. They'll receive an email notification with a link that takes them directly to the comment.
Timestamps are a powerful way to give specific feedback. Instead of "the bridge feels weird," try "@Alex the transition at 2:14 could be smoother."

To-dos

Create to-do items for a song to track what needs to happen before it's done. To-dos support:

  • Assignees — Assign a to-do to a specific collaborator. They'll get an email notification.
  • Timestamps — Pin a to-do to a specific moment in the song, just like comments.
  • Completion — Check off to-dos as they're done. Everyone on the project can see the progress.

Notes

The notes panel is a freeform space for lyrics, credits, session notes, or anything else related to the song. All collaborators can view and edit notes.

Analytics

See how many times a song has been played and track listening activity over time. Analytics are available at the song level, album level, and across all songs for an artist.

Albums & Workflow

Albums in Bounce are more than a collection of songs — they're a visual workflow tool that helps you track where every song is in your process.

Creating an album

  1. Navigate to the Albums page from the sidebar.
  2. Click "New Album."
  3. Give it a title and optionally add cover art.
  4. Your album is created with default workflow stages.

Workflow stages

Every album has customizable workflow stages — for example, Writing, Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Done. You can:

  • Add, rename, reorder, or remove stages.
  • Drag songs between stages as they progress.
  • See a visual overview of your entire album's progress at a glance.

This is especially useful for albums with many songs in different states. Instead of trying to remember what's done and what isn't, just look at the board.

Customize your stages to match your actual process. Some artists use "Idea → Demo → Arrangement → Mix → Master." Others keep it simple with "In Progress → Review → Done."

Adding songs to an album

There are several ways to add songs:

  • Drag a song from the library onto an album stage.
  • Use the Add to Album button from the library's bulk actions.
  • Click the "+" button within an album stage.
A song can be part of multiple albums. Adding a song to an album doesn't move it — it creates an association.

Album tools

Albums have their own set of tools, similar to songs:

  • To-dos — Album-level tasks with assignees.
  • Notes — Album-wide notes for track listings, release plans, etc.
  • Analytics — Combined play counts for all songs in the album.
  • Visibility — Make an album public to create a shareable album page, or keep it private.

Sharing an album workflow

You can share a read-only view of your album's workflow with anyone — even people who aren't on Bounce. This is useful for giving a label or manager a live view of your album's progress without giving them full access. Generate a share link from the album page.

Other album actions

  • Play album — Queue and play all songs in the album.
  • Duplicate — Create a copy of the album and its structure.
  • Delete — Delete the album. Songs are not deleted — they remain in the library.
  • Reorder songs — Drag songs within a stage or between stages to set the order.

The Stem Mixer

The Stem Mixer is Bounce's built-in mixing tool. Upload your stems (drums, bass, vocals, etc.) and mix them right inside the browser — adjust levels, pan, add effects, automate volume, and bounce down to a new mix.

Opening the mixer

Expand a song in the library that has stems uploaded, then click the Mixer button. The Stem Mixer opens in a dedicated full-screen view.

The Stem Mixer requires at least one stem to be uploaded. If a song only has mixes (no stems), the Mixer button won't appear.

Track view

The Track view shows each stem as a horizontal waveform lane with a shared timeline. You can:

  • Click anywhere on the timeline to set the playhead position.
  • Use the transport controls (play, pause, rewind, skip) at the top.
  • Zoom in and out of the timeline for precise editing.
  • Adjust volume and pan per stem using the controls on each lane.
  • Mute (M) or solo (S) individual stems.

Mixer view

Switch to Mixer view for a channel-strip layout — like a traditional mixing console. Each stem gets a vertical channel with:

  • Volume fader.
  • Pan knob.
  • Mute and solo buttons.
  • Level meter.

Plugins and effects

Each stem can have its own effects chain. Available plugins:

  • EQ — Shape the frequency balance of a stem.
  • Compressor — Control dynamics.
  • Reverb — Add space and ambience.
  • Delay — Add echo and rhythmic repeats.

Add plugins from the stem's channel strip. Adjust parameters in real-time while listening.

Volume automation

Double-click on a stem's waveform lane to add automation points. Drag points to create volume changes over time — fade ins, fade outs, dips under vocals, and more.

Bouncing to a new mix

When you're happy with your mix, click Bounce to render all stems (with your volume, pan, effects, and automation settings) into a new mix file. The new mix is automatically added to the song's mixes.

Mastering

The Mastering feature applies basic mastering processing to your mix. Access it from the Master button in the transport bar.

Loop regions

Click and drag in the loop bar above the timeline to set a loop region. Playback will cycle within this region — useful for fine-tuning a specific section of the song.

Comparing mixes (A/B)

Use a reference mix to A/B your stem mix against an existing mix. Switch between them without losing your playback position — the playhead stays in sync so you can hear the exact same moment in each version.

Mobile mixer

The Stem Mixer works on mobile devices with an adapted layout. The Track and Mixer views are optimized for smaller screens, so you can check your mix on the go.

The Bounce Lounge

The Lounge is Bounce's listening room — a place where you and your collaborators can hang out, listen to music together, and talk about what you're hearing in real time.

What the Lounge is

Think of it as a virtual listening party. One person is the DJ, controlling what plays. Everyone else listens in sync and chats. There's the main Bounce Lounge (open to all Bounce users) and each artist can have its own private lounge.

Joining a lounge

Navigate to the Lounge page from the sidebar. You'll see available lounges — the Bounce Lounge and any artist lounges you have access to. Click to join.

Being the DJ

When you're the DJ, you control the playlist. You can:

  • Search and add songs from the library to the queue.
  • Reorder the queue by dragging songs.
  • Skip to the next song.
  • Play and pause playback.

To become the DJ, click Change DJ in the Lounge header. You can also pass DJ control to someone else or end the session.

Song requests

If you're not the DJ, you can request songs. Requests appear in the DJ's queue for them to accept or skip.

Chat

The Lounge has a real-time chat alongside the music. Use it to discuss what you're hearing, give feedback, or just hang out. You can @mention collaborators in the chat.

Starting and ending sessions

For artist lounges, you need to activate the session before anyone can join. Click Start Session from the Lounge page. When you're done, the DJ can end the session.

Sharing Your Music

Bounce makes it easy to share your music with anyone — collaborators, labels, friends, or fans — even if they don't have a Bounce account.

Shareable links

You can generate a shareable link for:

  • A song — Shares the song with its latest mix.
  • A specific mix — Shares one particular version of a song.
  • An album — Shares the album workflow view or the public album page.

Click the share icon on any song, mix, or album to generate a link. Copy it to your clipboard and send it however you like.

You control whether the recipient can download the audio or just listen. Set download permissions when generating the share link.

Comparing mixes via shared links

When you share a song that has multiple mixes, the recipient can switch between mixes with synchronized playback. The playhead stays in the same position so they can A/B different versions at the exact same moment.

Public album pages

Set an album to public to create a beautiful, branded album page with a unique URL. The page shows cover art, track listing, and playback controls. It's perfect for sending to labels, press, or fans.

Your Jukebox

The Jukebox is your personal playlist within Bounce. It's separate from the main playback queue — think of it as a "favorites" list you can curate over time.

Adding songs

Add songs to your Jukebox from almost anywhere in Bounce — the library, the activity feed, an album, or even the Lounge. Look for the Add to Jukebox option in song menus.

Managing your Jukebox

Access your Jukebox from the Dashboard. You can:

  • Reorder songs by dragging.
  • Remove songs.
  • Play the entire Jukebox as a queue.

Dashboard & Activity

The Dashboard is your home base when you log in. It shows a real-time feed of everything happening across all your artists.

Activity feed

The feed shows activity from all artists you're a member of, including:

  • New comments and @mentions.
  • New to-do assignments.
  • Uploaded songs, mixes, and stems.
  • Album updates.
  • Team changes (new members, invitations).
  • Announcements from the Bounce team.

Filtering and searching

Filter the activity feed by type (comments, uploads, to-dos, etc.) to focus on what matters. Use the search bar to find specific activity.

Taking action from the feed

The activity feed isn't just a log — you can act on items directly:

  • Play a song or mix that was just uploaded.
  • Add a song to your queue or Jukebox.
  • Mark a to-do as complete.
  • Click through to the song, album, or comment for full context.

Playback

Bounce has a persistent audio player that stays at the bottom of the screen as you navigate. You never lose your place — the music keeps playing no matter where you go in the app.

Player controls

  • Play / Pause — Start or stop playback.
  • Seek — Click or drag the progress bar to jump to a specific point.
  • Volume — Adjust the master volume.
  • Previous / Next — Skip between songs in the queue.
  • Repeat — Toggle repeat mode to loop the current song.

Queue management

The queue shows what's playing and what's coming up next. You can:

  • Add songs from the library, albums, or activity feed.
  • Reorder the queue by dragging.
  • Remove songs from the queue.
  • Clear the entire queue.

OS media controls

Bounce integrates with your operating system's media controls. On Mac, you can use the play/pause keys on your keyboard. On mobile, the lock screen and notification shade show playback controls.

Subscription & Billing

Bounce pricing is based on how many songs each artist has — not how many people are involved. Every feature is included on every plan, including the free tier.

Pricing tiers

Each artist has its own plan:

  • Free15 songs per artist. All features included. No credit card required.
  • 30 songs$5/month per artist.
  • 50 songs$9/month per artist.
  • 100 songs$19/month per artist.
  • Unlimited songs$29/month per artist.
Every plan includes unlimited mixes, stems, collaborators, albums, and access to every feature — the Stem Mixer, Lounge, comments, to-dos, sharing, and more. The only variable is the number of songs per artist.

How it works with multiple artists

Each artist has its own plan and its own song count. If you have three artists — a solo project, a band, and a side project — each one independently has 15 free songs. You only need to upgrade an artist if that specific artist needs more than 15 songs.

Most musicians start with the free tier and upgrade individual artists as their catalogs grow. There's no pressure to pay until you need more space.

Managing your subscription

Navigate to Settings → Subscription from the sidebar. From there you can:

  • See your current plan for each artist.
  • Upgrade or downgrade an artist's plan.
  • Update your payment method.
  • View payment history.
  • Cancel a subscription.

Billing is handled securely through Stripe. Bounce does not store your credit card information.
